Thomasville Kentucky Derby Party

It’s time to break out those big hats, ladies.  The 139th Kentucky Derby runs this Saturday, May 4th, 2013.  That means it’s time for the annual Thomasville Kentucky Derby Party at Pebble Hill’s Uno Hill Barn.

The Kentucky Derby Party begins at 5:30pm in Thomasville, with the derby playing live on the big screen set up especially for this event.  Guests can indulge in the Bulleit Bourbon Mint Julep Bar.  Dinner will be catered by Capers.  And, back by popular demand, Wiser Than Fools will be providing the musical accompaniment for the evening’s dancing.  Included in the festivities will be a Hat Contest, with three $100 prizes to be awarded, a 50/50 cash pot and raffles galore.  Your $10 raffle ticket could win you a Jekyll Island Getaway or a Thomasville Party Package.

Thomasville Weekend Getaway Packages

Thomasville Due South

The Thomasville Center for the Arts is dedicated to promoting the creative process in all Thomasville residents with all forms of artistic expression.  For a taste of the “southern experience”, they have put together the Thomasville Due South celebration this Friday and Saturday, April 19th and 20th, 2013.  Downtown Thomasville is guaranteed to be filled with art, food and music for this two-day festival.

Things kick off Friday when the gates open at 6pm.  The Grammy award winning bluegrass band Steep Canyon Rangers will perform a special set with guest, singer-songwriter Shannon Whitworth.  General admission tickets are just $25 in advance, with VIP access going for $125 each.  Kids under 11 are allowed free.  Free music will be performed all day Saturday from 10am to 5:30pm.  Artists scheduled to perform include Florida band the Fried Turkeys at 10am, American Rock band Mama’s Love at 12pm, Atlanta singer-songwriter Ralph Roddendery at 3pm and Big Bill Morganfield, son of American blues legend Muddy Waters, at 4:30pm.

In between the amazing music scheduled for all day Saturday, visitors to Thomasville Due South have the opportunity to visit the Maker’s Market grand opening from 10am to 5:30pm.  View Art in Public Places on Remington Avenue (between Madison and Broad St) from 10am to 5pm.  After that, head over to Delarber Dowtown from 5:30pm to 7:30pm for the Artist Collective opening of their Fresh exhibit.

You can purchase tickets online in advance by visiting the Due South ticket center here.  Come to downtown Thomasville this Friday and Saturday for a true taste of the south at Thomasville Due South.  They provide the food, beer and entertainment.  All you need to bring is a chair and you’re good to go!

Taste of Thomasville Food Tour

People LOVE food.  Foodie programs on the Food Network, the Cooking Channel and even the Travel Channel are all the rage right now.  If you’re a food lover or simply want to show your out of town guests what our city has to offer in a unique way, take a Taste of Thomasville Food Tour.

Beginning this Friday, April 12th and continuing every Friday and Saturday thereafter through October 5th, Thomasville residents and visitors can sign up for a walking food tour of downtown Thomasville restaurants.  The entire tour is just 1.4 miles from beginning to end and takes approximately three hours to complete.  Along the way, you will learn some of Thomasville’s fascinating history between stops at Jonah’s Shrimp and Grits, Grassroots Coffee House, George & Louis (Greek/seafood), Moonspin pizzeria, Sweet Grass Dairy Cheese Shop and Lucy and Leo’s Cupcakery.  Sample some of the tasty treats available at each location while talking with the proprietors.  It’s a great way to learn more about local produce, meats and artisans or make a personal connection with the owner of your favorite local eatery.

The Taste of Thomasville Food Tour is open for all ages and fitness levels.  However, it is probably best suited for foodies ages 13+.  The $40 fee for adults ($35 for kids under 12) includes a personal guide and all food sampled at each stop.  The tours commence through rain or shine.  Make sure to dress comfortably and appropriately.  For more info and/or purchase tickets, please visit the Taste of Thomasville website here or call (800) 979-3370.  Advance purchase is required.

Thomasville Rose Show Festival 2013

The Thomasville Rose Show has become a cherished annual tradition here in Southwest Georgia.  This marks the 92nd year we’ve celebrated one of our most beautiful flowers.  This year, the Thomasville Rose Show Festival 2013 takes place April 25-27 in and around the Thomasville area.

The Children’s Rose Bud Parade will kick off things on Thursday, April 25th at 7pm at the Courthouse.  The official Rose Show itself will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1:45pm on Friday and continues through the end of the day on Saturday.  We prove that roses aren’t just for the west coast’s New Year’s Day parade.  The 65th Annual Thomasville Rose Parade starts off at the Courthouse (Broad & Jefferson) at 7pm on Friday, with a fun street dance to follow at 8:30pm.

Saturday is jam-packed full of fun things to do for all Thomasville residents and visitors.  The Rose City 10K Run starts at 8am in front of the Post Office, with the 1 Mile Fun Run for kids at 9:30am (for more info and to register, please call 229-226-9878).  The Rose City Golf Classic will be held both Saturday and Sunday at the Country Oaks Municipal Golf Course (call 229-225-4333 for more info).  Art in the Park coincides with Bark in the Park at Paradise Park, with Bark in the Park happening from 10am to 12:30pm and Art in the Park taking place from 10am to 4pm.  Included with the arts and crafts on display at Art in the Park will be plenty of fun children’s activities as well as live music.  Vintage cars and trucks will line up around the courthouse for viewing from 10am to 3pm on Saturday as well.

Join in on the fun of one of our favorite southern traditions.  Come celebrate the beauty of our fair city at the Thomasville Rose Show Festival 2013 on April 25-27th.  There will be tons of beautiful flowers, lots of children’s activities and live music.  The Rose Queen and her court will also be making an appearance.
