Thomasville Father Daughter Dance 2014

The Thomasville Father Daughter Dance 2014 is the very first one of its kind being held at St Thomas Episcopal Church.  All proceeds from the dance with allow the local Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society to build a brand new exercise yard for the animals they shelter there.  All fathers and their daughters will enjoy music from the 70s, 80s and 90s up until present day thanks to the talents of the live DJ that evening.  The price of admission includes hors d’ouevres and plenty to drink (non-alcoholic, of course).  You can wear your Sunday best or formal wear…your choice.  Capture the magic of the evening with a photograph taken by a professional photographer.

Hands On Thomasville Mardi Gras 2014

You don’t have to go to Lousiana to enjoy some Mardi Gras fun.  In fact, you don’t even have to wait until Mardi Gras to get into the spirit.  N’Awlins comes to Thomasville this Saturday, January 25th with the Hands On Thomasville Mardi Gras 2014.

The Hands On Thomasville Mardi Gras 2014 event helps raise funds for Hands On Thomas County, an organization that encourages volunteerism in Thomasville and other communities in the Thomas County area.  HOTC also helps find volunteers for local non-profit organizations.  They also help local non-profit and community groups locate projects to help make Thomas County neighborhoods thrive.

At the Hands On Thomasville Mardi Gras 2014 event, guests will enjoy live music and dancing, auctions for some amazing prizes, raffles and some tantalizing Cajun-inspired food courtesy of local Thomasville favorite JB Crumbs.  There’s even a fun “goof booth” for guests to memorialize the evening with your friends.

Illustration Friday in Thomasville

For millions of people across the US, one of the resolutions they make is to get more exercise.  It’s a good thing to work out your body everyday.  But it’s equally important to work on your mind.  Exercise your creative side at Illustration Friday in Thomasville.

Illustration Friday takes place on the second Friday of each month in Thomasville.  For the first Illustration Friday of 2014, that’s this Friday, the 10th.  A live model or unique still life will be presented for all participants to draw inspiration from.  You don’t have to be Picasso, da Vinci or van Gough to be part of Illustration Friday in Thomasville either.  All you have to do is bring your passion, some paper and a few artist’s implements to render your own masterpiece.  Don’t worry.  There are no critics here…only encouragement.

Thomasville 2014 Rose Queen Pageant

We hope that everyone’s Christmas was merry and bright here in Thomasville.  There are only two more days left in 2013.  Instead of looking back, we need to look forward…to the Thomasville 2014 Rose Queen Pageant.

The crowning glory (so to speak) of the annual Rose Show and Festival is the Thomasville 2014 Rose Queen Pageant.  Every year, local Thomasville beauties compete for the Rose Queen crown or to sit on the Queen’s court.  All high school juniors and seniors who either attend a Thomas County school or are home schooled and are at least 16 years old are eligible to compete.

All contestants for the Thomasville 2014 Rose Queen Pageant are required to apply online.  The first meeting for all Rose Queen contenders will take place at 2pm on January 12, 2014 at the Municipal Auditorium Building.  Each contestant will be evaluated in four areas: interview, essay, evening gown/poise and fitness/choreography.  Winners in the top five places will receive scholarship money, with the Rose Queen winner receiving $1000 to further her education.

One of the most popular resolutions Americans make every year is to lose weight and/or live a healthier lifestyle.  Starting off with a New Year’s Day 2014 hike in Thomasville fits this resolution perfectly.  Participants will spend approximately one hour following their guide as they hike through the old growth of the Lost Creek Forest.  It’s considered a very easy trek during the wintertime.  If you want to continue on to the new Lost Creek growth and along the Yamacraw for another hour or two, make sure you wear your best hiking boots and a good pair of socks because you will get muddy.

Thomasville Winter Solstice Celebration 2013

The winter solstice, also known as the Southern solstice, takes place when the sun is at its lowest point in the sky.  This occurrence has been celebrated annually for centuries by cultures all over the world.  You can join in on the festivities by coming to the Thomasville Winter Solstice Celebration 2013 at the Birdsong Nature Center this Saturday, December 21st.

To celebrate the Thomasville Winter Solstice Celebration 2013, Birdsong Nature Center has invited friends, neighbors and visitors to their facility to listen to different kinds of music around the bonfire.  Included in the price of admission is a dinner of chili, vegetarian soup and hot drinks.  After dinner, wander down to the Star Pasture to gaze up into the skies and contemplate the universe and your place in it.  Quite a “heady” proposition, isn’t it?  The entire solstice celebration takes place outdoors.  So, make sure you dress appropriately.

There’s something absolutely magical about a Victorian Christmas.  With the Thomasville Victorian Christmas 2013 celebration, you’ll quickly see why.  Carolers dressed in their 19th century holiday finery stroll around downtown Thomasville singing traditional Christmas classics.  Take a carriage ride with horses decked out in twinkling lights, making music with their jingle bells.  Guests may even find themselves face to face with live street performances throughout the downtown area.

Thomasville Take Your Child Outside for the Holidays 2013

Wintertime is a gorgeous time here in Thomasville.  We’ve been lucky enough to be relatively warm.  That makes exploring the outdoors a little easier.  Because of that, Birdsong Nature Center believes you should be celebrating Thomasville Take Your Child Outside for the Holidays 2013 at their facilities this Saturday.

So many kids stay indoors most of the time with video games, television shows and movies.  Motivating them to head outside can sometimes be difficult.  That’s just not the case when you go to Thomasville Take Your Child Outside for the Holidays 2013.  Your kids can get in on the holiday fun by collecting elements from nature and creating fun decorations for your Thomasville home and/or gifts for that one-of-a-kind touch.  Birdsong’s own Sandra Sallie will give each child their own collection bag and take them on a trek through the center’s grounds, collecting items along the way.
